My favorite movie theatre growing up was the Cinedome 70 in Riverdale, Utah. About 10 years ago I connected with Mark Tullis, whose father and grandfather had build the Cinedome in 1970. Over the years we did several interviews and gathered old photos and video footage to put together this short documentary on the Cinedome.
Tracy Charlton sells nostalgia. His used video game store called Minus World is home to thousands of games and nearly 50 years of video game history.
A couple months ago I came across Tracey’s store and asked if I could do a short documentary on his story. We did a sit down interview and then a walking tour where Tracey showed me the video games and consoles he has collected over the years, plus a few personal artifacts like a hat from the Nintendo World Championships Tracey participated in in the early 1990s.
In the Catholic faith, May is the month of Mary. A common tradition is to place a statue of the Blessed Mother at the front of the church and parishioners will place flowers in front of her. The celebrate the month of Mary, Juan Diego Catholic High School asked me to produce this music video featuring their choir students and choir director John VanWagoner.
In 2008 I filmed some interviews with my friends Josh and Haley McBride for a story on a unique barn. Haley’s grandfather, Gary Beazer, built a barn for his calf raising business in 1971. On top of the barn he created a gathering place for his family to hold parties. Over the years Beazer added different items to the barn he collected, including homemade bar stools made of milk cans and tractor seats and a full size shuffleboard that was hoisted through the back door by a crane lift. I recently saw Josh and Haley and remembered this footage that we filmed. This last week I decided to edit it into a short documentary about “The Barn.”
Juan Diego Catholic High School asked me to make a music video of a creative arrangement of “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” by John VanWagoner, the school’s choir director. All vocals, readings and instrumentation is performed by students.
The last two years I’ve enjoyed creating the bonus content for the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square’s annual PBS Christmas Special. In December 2019, I filmed and edited four shorts documenting the making of the concert with Kelli O’Hara and Richard Thomas. The videos were released recently on PBS.org and the Choir’s Youtube Channel.
This past month I was able to produce a music video for The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square’s Youtube Channel. The video uses a performance of “Baby of Bethlehem” that was done with Kelli O’Hara last December during the Choir’s annual Christmas Concert.
As I was listening to the lyrics the words “O sister, don’t you want to go to heaven? Baby of Bethlehem, Baby of Bethlehem” reminded me of my neighbors Treagan and Hensleigh White who lost their wife and mother to cancer earlier this year. Kim White was an influencer on Instagram for several years where she documented her battle with cancer and offered hope to many people.
I spoke to Treagan and asked if he and Hensleigh would be part of this video to share their faith in the Resurrection made possible through the Baby in Bethlehem.

Martin Diaz takes viewers on a tour of the bell tower at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Cathedral has four bells that toll every day of the year. Two of the bells date back to the early 1900's when the Cathedral was constructed.

My new documentary on Movie Palaces premieres on PBS Utah Tuesday, September 1st at 7:00pm. There will be two encore broadcasts on Friday, September 4th at 7:30pm and Saturday September 5th at 5:30pm. The film shares the history of the “golden age” of Hollywood when studios and entrepreneurs raced to construct extravagant theaters in which to showcase their craft, and outdo each other along the way.
The full version of my recent documentary, The Rights of Nature: A Global Movement, is now available for streaming online. The film tells the story of a growing environmental initiative in which natural areas are given legal status. Our team traveled to The Galápagos Islands, Ecuador New Zealand, Santa Monica, California and the Great Salt Lake to learn how the movement is being developed.
